Development Process

Developing software is a difficult task to accomplish. The realisation of software development projects is even harder. This has been established by success-studies about software development projects which affirm the failure rate of the software industry – approximately 20% of today’s software development projects are finalized successfully. There are various approaches to develop software. So called process models describe principles and processes about how to implement such projects. At the beginning of this century new kinds of process models appeared – agile process models. They were developed to enhance the effectiveness of software development projects by managing difficulties which were not adequately considered by the classic process models - difficulties such as communication, the planning reliability of software, and the added expenses for alternations of functionality.

There are various agile process models, but all of them share the four basic principles of the Agile Manifesto:

- Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
- Working software over comprehensive documentation
- Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
- Responding to change over following a plan

The following illustration describes Extreme Programming (see Deutsch, English), which is the agile process model that we prefer to implement our projects:
